Who founded Koo?
The site was co-founded by entrepreneurs Aparmeya Radhakrishna and Mayank Bidwatka. Radhakrishna has also founded the online can booking service TaxiForSure, which was sold to Ola cabs. Koo's parent company is Bombinate Technologies Pvt Ltd. It also launched the Indian version of Quora called Vokal.
How did Koo come into the light?
The App was launched in early 2020.
It came into limelight when it participated in the Atmanirbhar App Innovation Challenge and then subsequently won it.
It functions just as Twitter does, but Koo provides users with the option of writing text in several Indian languages. Koo was one of the winners of a competition that was launched by the Union ministry of electronics and information technology in July last year to find alternatives to Chinese apps.
The character limit for a 'Koo' is 400. One can sign up for Koo using their mobile number. Users have the option of linking their Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube and Twitter feed to the Koo profile as well. One can also post audio or video-based post.

Why in News?
Central Government has asked the microblogging site, Twitter to block the suspicious accounts. Various departments of the Union Government has started flocking on Koo App. It is a homemade version of the social networking platform.
As of the latest update on February 10, 2021, the microblogging site has suspended over 500 accounts as ordered by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India, under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act.
Why ban Twitter in india?
- 1- India ordered Twitter to remove more than 1,100 accounts and posts that it alleges are spreading misinformation about farmers protesting against new agricultural reforms, Reuters reported.
- 2- Twitter said it only partially complied with the orders, explaining it reduced the visibility of hashtags containing harmful content and suspended accounts engaging in "clear examples of platform manipulation and spam."Other accounts identified in the government's blocking orders are unavailable in the country but can be accessed from outside India.

Is Koo app safe?
As Koo's user base surged, ethical hacker Robert Baptiste, who goes by Elliot Alderson on Twitter, raised concerns around the security of the data collected by the app. “The app is leaking the personal data of users: email, dob, name, marital status, gender,” he wrote on Twitter.Its indian Micro Bloging app user all data save in india.
